N. L. O. Shanghai repeated Admiralty, H.M. Ambassador Tokyo, Commodore, Hong Kong, Governor Hong Kong.
511. It is alleged that s.s. DHOLLRA of New
Dholera Steamship Company was seized by Japanese off the Chungshan Coast (near Macao) on June 2nd. On charter to a Chinese firm, she was unloading a cargo of kerosene in the above area and was last seen under escort of Japanese military launches. She has not returned to Hong Kong which she left
on June 1st.
Commodore Hong Kong has been instructed to investigate fully, furnish details, and to deal with the case.
In the meantime you should enquire of Admiral Nomura in the sense of paragraph 3 of my 1116 May 12th, and draw his attention particularly to paragraph 2 of your 1900 May 15th, though as the report I have received mentions military launches this may account for no information of this occurrence having been received from Japanese Naval Authorities.
Commodore Hong Kong has been informed that it
appears that the best method of dealing with this problem if military are involved is through Consul General Canton, and information on this point is desired if possible.
